The cal 133.8 movement, a bumper automatic with 20 jewels running at 21,600 bph, one of the first automatic movements with a direct central seconds hand. 77,000 were produced throughout the 1950's; I don't know how many were certified and marked on the rotor as chronometres, but I think it is quite a small percentage. I'm looking to buy my first vintage watch and this ad of a Zenith cal 133.8, offered for 400,00 euro, got my attention.
Congratulations - a good find! The serial number of that one puts it at around 1957-58. Write to Zenith ([email protected]) and they will tell you more. The Cal. 133 (original version - same as the Cal. 133.8 but running at 18000 .

In another thread on the MB, I mentioned I was working on a Zenith bumper automatic wrist watch for a friend. There was a reply to the post requesting a picture. At that point, I was waiting for parts. Here is a ZENITH cal. 133.8 which is one of first Zenith automatic movements (together with cal. 133), and the first movement to have direct central second hand. It is a bumper automatic with 20 jewels, beating at 21.600 bph with a power reserve of 35 h. There were 77.000 watches produced with this caliber between 1951 and 1958. This makes watches like the incredibly well-preserved 1950s Zenith Automatic that is featured in this week’s episode of Under the Radar the perfect vintage timepieces for collectors who want a beautiful watch from a blue chip manufacturer, all for an attractive price that won’t break the bank.
